What makes us different
Every film stock is built from the manufacturer's published H&D curves — the same documents Kodak and Fuji give professional labs for calibration. Most tools eyeball it. We measure it.
Your image passes through a negative characteristic curve, then through Kodak 2383 or 2393 print stock — exactly how a real optical printer works. You get the cross-curve tonality no LUT can replicate.
Grain is Selwyn-scaled and injected into the linear-light signal before tone mapping — the same domain where silver halide crystals actually live. It responds to exposure the way real grain does: bigger in shadows, finer in highlights.
Blown highlights? Our AI reconstructs missing detail before applying film curves — so your emulation has real tonal data to work with, not clipped white. No other film tool does this.
Optical squeeze, oval bokeh, lateral chromatic aberration, lens mumps, and AI-generated widescreen extensions. Not a vignette filter — a full anamorphic lens model.
Upload CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG, or .hdr files and we decode them server-side. Film curves are applied to the real scene-referred data — not a re-compressed JPEG export from Lightroom.

The story
Every film emulation tool I tried either cost $20/month, required a desktop install, or produced results that looked like a faded Instagram filter. The characteristic curve of Kodak Portra 400 isn't a vibe — it's a measurable photochemical response. I wanted software that treated it that way.
So I built one. Film Lab Pro derives its color science directly from the same sensitometric datasheets Kodak and Fuji publish for professional lab calibration. Each stock models a real two-stage darkroom pipeline: negative curve, print stock response, halation and grain in exposure space.
It's free because great film photography tools shouldn't cost a subscription. You don't need $20/month to put Cinestill 800T grain on your street photos.
